What’s Actually Worth Keeping in Your Bedside Drawer?

Have you ever been right in the middle of a moment and realized the one thing you need is approximately three rooms away?

Suddenly, somebody is digging through a bathroom cabinet, checking drawers, or wandering around the house trying to remember where you put that bottle you KNOW you bought.

Nothing says romance quite like, “Hang on, I think it’s under the sink.”

That’s why I’m a big fan of the bedside drawer.

And I don’t mean the drawer where random charging cords, old receipts, and three pens that don’t work go to die. I mean a little stash of things you actually use that can make intimacy easier, more comfortable, and a whole lot less interrupted.

You don’t need to squeeze an entire adult store into your nightstand. A few well-chosen essentials will do.

1. A Lubricant You Already Love

Comfort deserves a spot within arm’s reach.

Lubricant can help things feel smoother and more comfortable, whether you’re enjoying solo time, using a toy, or connecting with a partner. And once things are getting interesting, nobody wants to launch a household search party for it.

Keep a favorite nearby, and check that it’s compatible with the toys or barriers you use. Follow the product labels when you’re unsure.

The best bedside lube is one you enjoy using—and can actually find.

2. One Easy Favorite

This is a great spot for a small vibrator or another toy you already know you enjoy.

Think dependable. Familiar. Easy to grab.

Something that requires an instruction manual, a missing attachment, and 45 minutes of setup probably doesn’t need the prime real estate.

There’s absolutely a time for trying something new. But having a reliable favorite nearby takes one more decision off your plate.

And when you’ve spent all day making decisions for everyone else? That matters.

3. A Few Cleanup Essentials

Cleanup is a lot less annoying when you’ve thought about it ahead of time.

A soft cloth, a small towel, or appropriate wipes can help with the immediate tidying up. If you use toy cleaner, keep that handy, too, and follow your toy’s cleaning instructions.

Just remember: a quick wipe doesn’t necessarily replace a proper cleaning.

Clean toys before storing them, let them dry fully, and keep them in a clean pouch or designated space. The goal is to make your favorites easy to reach for the next time the mood shows up.

4. One Little Extra

Here’s where you leave room for a little playfulness.

Maybe it’s massage oil. Maybe it’s body lotion, a blindfold, or something that makes you both think, “Well… since it’s right here.”

Choose something you actually enjoy, rather than something you feel like you should have.

A little extra can be an invitation to slow down, give each other attention, or break out of the usual routine. It doesn’t have to turn into a whole production.

Sometimes a five-minute shoulder massage is a pretty great place to start.

5. Give the Drawer an Occasional Reset

Your bedside drawer should not become a retirement community for dead batteries and products you bought three years ago.

Every so often, take a few minutes to:

  • Check expiration dates and product storage instructions.

  • Charge rechargeable toys.

  • Inspect toys for damage and clean them as directed.

  • Replace products that are past their best.

  • Clear out anything you never reach for.

And if you have kids in the house, choose secure storage that keeps adult products out of curious little hands. A lockable box can keep your essentials accessible to you while protecting your privacy.

Make It Useful for Your Actual Life

Your bedside drawer doesn’t need to look like a showroom. It should work for you.

If you’re usually tired by bedtime, keep things simple. If you love massage, make room for it. If you have one favorite toy you reach for every time, give it the good spot.

There’s no prize for having the most impressive collection.

Sometimes better intimacy starts with removing the tiny inconveniences that interrupt it: the missing bottle, the uncharged toy, the towel nobody remembered to grab.

Keep the things you love nearby, make them easy to use, and give yourself one less thing to think about.

Because “Come a little closer” is a much better interruption than “Can you check under the sink?”
