The Best Position Might Need a Pillow- RomanceEd by Maranda White

The Best Position Might Need a Pillow 😉

Let’s talk about something that doesn’t get said enough:

Sometimes better sex isn’t about finding a brand-new position. It’s about making the positions you already enjoy actually feel comfortable.

Because no matter what those perfectly posed diagrams on the internet suggest, real bodies come in different heights, shapes, sizes, flexibility levels, and ranges of motion.

And sometimes… things just don’t line up quite right.

You know the awkward shuffle.

Scoot a little.

Lift your hips.

Move the pillow.

Nope, too far.

Try again. 😅

Before you know it, you’re so focused on making the position work that you’re barely able to enjoy what’s happening.

Here’s the thing: there’s nothing wrong with your bodies.

Sometimes they just need a little support.

Why Positioning Can Make Such a Difference

Think about how many things we already use to make our bodies more comfortable.

We adjust our office chairs. We prop ourselves up with pillows on the couch. We buy mattresses based on how we sleep.

So why wouldn’t we make adjustments during sex, too?

This can be especially helpful when you and your partner have:

  • A noticeable height difference
  • Different body shapes or sizes
  • Limited mobility or flexibility
  • Joint, hip, knee, or back discomfort
  • Positions that almost feel amazing but never quite hit the right angle

Instead of trying to make your body conform to a position, you can change the position to work better for your body.

Enter: The Sex Pillow

And no, I’m not just talking about grabbing the flattest pillow off your bed and folding it in half. 😂

Positioning wedges and ramps are specifically designed to support the body and create different angles without requiring you to hold yourself there.

Adding a few inches of elevation underneath the hips, back, knees, or another part of the body can change the angle of a position significantly.

That can mean less straining, less adjusting, and more opportunity to focus on sensation and connection.

It can also make certain angles easier to maintain, which may help partners find the type of pressure or stimulation that feels best for them.

Sometimes a tiny adjustment creates a completely different experience.

3 Things I Want You to Remember

1. Prioritize comfort over flexibility.

You do not need to turn yourself into a human pretzel to have great sex.

If something hurts, strains, pinches, or requires you to spend the entire time thinking, “How long am I supposed to hold my leg like this?” — adjust it.

Being physically comfortable makes it much easier to relax, stay present, communicate, and actually enjoy yourself.

2. Don’t be afraid to add support.

Using a wedge, ramp, pillow, or piece of positioning furniture isn’t “cheating.”

It’s a tool.

You’re simply helping your body work with you instead of against you.

And if a little extra support means you can comfortably enjoy a position that normally feels awkward or tiring? I call that a win.

3. Experiment with small changes.

You don’t necessarily need to completely change what you’re doing.

Try changing the angle.

Raise the hips slightly.

Support the knees.

Take pressure off the lower back.

Adjust the height difference between partners.

Pay attention to what feels better — not what you think the position is supposed to look like.

Because there is no universally perfect position.

There’s only what works best for your bodies.

Stop Chasing the “Perfect” Position

Great sex isn’t a flexibility competition.

You don’t get bonus points because you managed to recreate something you saw online while one hamstring was begging for mercy. 😂

The goal is comfort, pleasure, connection, and figuring out what works for the two people actually in the room.

And when you’re not distracted by awkward angles, tired muscles, or constantly having to reposition yourselves, you have a whole lot more attention available for the good stuff.

So before you decide a position “just doesn’t work for us,” try changing the support underneath you.

You might not need a new position.

You might just need a sex pillow. 😉
